The World Sailing Board of Directors was elected by the General Assembly, November 2016 under the terms of Articles 71-74. The Board of Directors will act as a mentor to the allocated committees and departments and will be responsible for the representation to the Board and Council. 	Kim Andersen (DEN) President Kim Andersen was elected President of World Sailing at the November 2016 General Assembly in Barcelona, Spain. As President of World Sailing, Andersen's primary responsibilities are to act as leader of World Sailing, represent the federation at official occasions, be responsible for ensuring the purposes and principles of World Sailing are observed and also support and endorse policies.

The world governing body for the sport of sailing was created in Paris in October 1907. It was initially called the International Yacht Racing Union (IYRU) before the name was changed to the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) on 5 August 1996.
